A sudden voice pierces your ear out from nowhere. The sudden noise is frightening, but soon you begin listening to the voice. It has a nice soul to it. A young and fresh, but poppy and well-practiced undertone. Soon you can't help but dancing around. You then begin to think, "Who does this voice belong to?" Fresh? Poppy? Soulful? Most likely your listening to Taylor Hanson of the pop group Hanson. This 16-year-old is no stranger to fame and fortune. His brothers and him went straight to the top with their hit song, "MMMBop." Now fans follow them around everywhere they go, which is quite a step up from the beginning of their career in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Taylor Hanson is the middle brother of Hanson, and is often considered the lead singer. On Middle of Nowhere, their first hit album following their two early releases, Taylor sings lead in 9 of the 12 songs. But Taylor insists that Hanson is a BAND and he is not the lead singer. Even though Taylor is known as the "quiet" brother, when he thinks something, he's not afraid to say it. "There are three of us in the band Hanson. We do harmonies together in every song, so there is no lead singer. We go off each other, and mold a sound that is known as Hanson. We're a band. If I wanted all the focus on me, the band would be called,'Taylor'" Taylor insists. Besides his bluntness, the Pisces boy is also known for his thoughtful blue eyes. He is the only Hanson with blue eyes, and girls are obviously very impressed. At the recent concert at The Beacon Theater in New York City, a girl could be seen holding a sign reading,"Tay = Blue-eyed BABE!" One glance, and you melt. But once again, Taylor says that isn't what he is about. "It's not like, 'LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT ME'," Taylor says, "Its more like 'LISTEN TO OUR MUSIC!'" But nevertheless, teenage girls everywhere want to know what this guy is like, as an individual. "I like to sing in our band," he says smugly. No Taylor, not what we meant. "Those things are so artificial," Taylor has said, "But if you REALLY want to know, I like seafood, chicken, pasta, pizza...see, I told you it was boring!" Okay, we got the food, but what about girls? "Girls? I really don't know.I haven't dated any, cause I've been too young, and now I'm to busy. I like girls, of course, and I'm hoping its only a matter of time until I meet the right one. But then again, I'm only 15, and it'll be awhile before marriage is even considered." Well isn't that good news! But Taylor really doesn't want the focus on anything but his music. Its what fired him and his brothers into the spotlight anyway. "Maybe when somebody tells me that they think I'm cute, I'll say 'Oh, you like the way my voice box looks'? Thank you!" Taylor says with a light grin. But for now, Taylor's focus will remain off girls, and on maintaining his music career. He lives day by day and hour by hour, hoping that it won't all end suddenly. "But if it did, we wouldn't have any regrets," Taylor says, "Its all been a dream, right? Okay! But at least it was a really really good dream!"
